Isaac Seligman : ウィキペディア英語版 | Isaac Seligman
Isaac Seligman (2 December 1834 〔 His date of birth seems to have been incorrectly recorded as 2 December 1835 when he applied for an American passport in 1863 (see: www.zimapanners.com/ImagesZimapan/isaac_seligman_passport.jpg), while other sources have correctly recorded his DOB as 1834. See, for example, the report by the Landmarks Preservation Commission on the J. & W. Seligman & Company Building, 13 February 1996, p. 3. at http://www.nyc.gov/html/lpc/downloads/pdf/reports/seligmanbldg.pdf 〕 – 9 April 1928) was a German-American merchant banker and philanthropist. ==Background== He was born Isaak Seligmann in Baiersdorf, Erlangen-Hochstadt, Bayern, Germany (Bavaria), to David Isaak Seligman and Fanny Steinhardt. He was the youngest of eight brothers, all of whom emigrated to America and became involved in running various branch offices of the merchant banking house J. & W. Seligman & Co., co-founded in Manhattan, New York City in 1846 by Isaak's elder brothers, James and Joseph Seligman. Isaak later changed his name to Isaac, and in August 1857, at the age of 23, Seligman joined his entrepreneurial brothers in the United States. 〔 ''The Banker from Baiersdorf'' by Peter King Smith at www.zimapanners.com: the history of a 19th century Cornish mine office which includes biographies of its owners, occupants and all those who had a legal interest in it.〕
